Terms of Service

Effective: February 2026

By joining the Companion Dog Project ("CDP") and registering dogs with the Companion Dog Registry ("CDR"), you acknowledge and agree to the following.

1. Standards

You agree to follow CDP's Ethics and Husbandry Standards as a condition of membership. These standards are available here. CDP's standards may be updated from time to time. Members will receive notice of material changes.

2. Registry Data

CDR is a long-term health and pedigree database. When you register a dog, its biological, health, pedigree, and breeding data becomes part of the registry. This data remains in the database regardless of membership status, as the integrity of the registry depends on the continuity of its records. Personally identifying information — including breeder name, program name, and microchip numbers — may be hidden from public display upon request. Dogs that are subject to contractual obligations such as non-disclosure agreements may be added to the database anonymously.

3. Health Test Results

Health test results submitted to CDR become part of the dog's record. You may currently manage the public display of individual results on your dogs' profiles. CDP retains all submitted results regardless of display preferences and may use them for aggregate research and verification. Display policies may change with notice.

4. De-identification

If your membership ends, you may request that your personal name, program name, and identifying information be removed from your dogs' public profiles. Microchip numbers will be hidden from public display upon request. The dogs' registry records remain intact and searchable. De-identification is not automatic and must be requested.

5. Owner Contact Information

When you enter puppy buyer or dog owner contact information into CDP, you authorize CDP to contact that individual for purposes including account registration, microchip registration, and health surveys. You represent that the contact information was provided to you directly by the owner. If an owner does not create a CDP account, their contact information will not be retained beyond a reasonable outreach period.

6. Membership Revocation

CDP reserves the right to suspend or revoke membership at its discretion, including for violation of its standards, falsification of records, or conduct materially harmful to the mission or reputation of CDP.

7. Limitation of Liability

CDP is a registry and data platform. CDP does not guarantee the health, temperament, or quality of any dog in its registry and is not a party to any transaction between breeders and buyers.

By completing your membership payment, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms.
